The Company operates in three segments: the personal lines of insurance, the commercial lines of insurance and the investment function. These insurance coverages are marketed in the eastern and Midwestern United States through approximately 1,300 insurance agencies. Its property and casualty insurance subsidiaries are Harleysville-Atlantic Insurance Company, Harleysville Insurance Company, Harleysville Insurance Company of New Jersey, Harleysville Insurance Company of New York, Harleysville Insurance Company of Ohio and Harleysville Lake States Insurance Company.
