Newport Bancorp, Inc. (Newport Bancorp) is a holding company for Newport Federal Savings Bank (the Bank). Newport Bancorp’s business activity is the ownership of the outstanding capital stock of Newport Federal. The Bank is a federally chartered savings bank. The Bank operates as a community-oriented financial institution offering financial services to consumers and businesses in the Bank’s market area. The Bank attracts deposits from the general public and uses those funds to originate one-to-four-family residential loans, commercial real estate loans, home equity loans and lines of credit, multi-family loans, construction loans and consumer loans. As of December 31, 2011, 99.6%, of the loans in its portfolio were collateralized by real estate. In September 2013, SI Financial Group Inc announced the completion of its acquisition of Newport Bancorp Inc, the holding company for Newport Federal Savings Bank.
