BlackRock High Income Shares (the Trust) is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Trust’s primary investment objective is to provide the highest current income attainable consistent with reasonable risk as determined by the Trust’s investment adviser, through investment in a professionally managed, diversified portfolio of high yield, high risk fixed income securities. The Trust’s secondary objective is to provide capital appreciation. It invests primarily in high yield, high risk debt instruments rated in the medium to lower categories by rating services (BBB or lower by Standard & Poor's or Baa or lower by Moody's Corporation) or non-rated securities. The average maturity of the Trust’s portfolio is between eight and 12 years. The Trust may invest directly in such securities or synthetically through the use of derivatives.
