What are analysts saying about Tesoro Corporation stock?
Here are some recent quotes from research analysts about Tesoro Corporation stock:
- 1. According to Zacks Investment Research, "Helped by impressive execution of its growth strategy plus improvements in efficiency, Tesoro has maintained its excellent track record of earnings surprise history, outperforming estimates in each of the last 4 quarters. One the largest independent oil refiners in the U.S., a major advantage for TSO is the scale and diversification benefits offered by its portfolio of 7 refineries. We also like TSO's solid long-term competitive position on the supply constrained California market. We view its impending acquisition of fellow downstream operator WNR as positive, given the compelling strategic rationale of the transaction. However, we remain worried by the tepid outlook for refining margins and weaker performance in its marketing unit. As it is, the U.S. refiners are feeling the pinch of higher RFS costs to comply with new cleaner gasoline production rules. These factors form the basis of our cautious stance on TSO." (7/14/2017)
- 2. Simmons analysts commented, "TSO is our top pick within the refining sector and well positioned, in our view, to outperform the peer group near-term on attractive West Coast refining fundamentals vs. other regions. Longer term, we expect that TSO's expected acquisition of WNR and realization of associated synergies to complement its well-diversified asset base will drive the stock towards its sum-of-parts valuation providing meaningful upside potential. The stock is currently trading at a below average EV/EBITDA multiple and has attractive upside to our $102/sh PT." (2/8/2017)
- 3. J P Morgan Chase & Co analysts commented, "TSO reported a tough 2Q on unplanned outages in refining and lowered its FY16 refining efficiency guide by $100mm. The focus on the call was Cali fundamentals (management remains positive), the greater cash percentage of the 2H drop, and the usage of that cash. While the outlook on refining margins is uncertain and California is adjusting to life with Torrance again, TSO seems well positioned to weather the 2H storm with its diversified model and incoming cash." (8/5/2016)
