Oura is a Finnish health technology company that makes a smart ring and a paired subscription app. The company was incorporated in 2013 as JouZen Oy, renamed Oura Health Oy in 2017, and reorganized in March 2026 under a new Delaware parent, Oura Inc. Headquarters are in San Francisco.
The Oura Ring uses finger-based sensors to collect continuous biometric data. The app turns that data into more than 50 metrics across sleep, activity, readiness, stress, heart health, metabolic health, and women's health. The company reports accuracy figures of roughly 99% for heart rate, 98% for heart rate variability, 96% for ovulation tracking, and 96% for sleep. The platform is organized into four layers — data, intelligence, interaction, and infrastructure — plus outside partners.
As of June 30, 2026, Oura had 5.0 million paid members across 56 markets. That represented about 2% of global wearable shipments over the preceding 12 months. In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, paid members wore the ring a median of about 23 hours per day. Weighted-average 12-month paid member retention was about 85%, and the DAU-to-MAU ratio was about 65%. Over the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, members opened the app more than 3.5 times a day on average.
About 72% of members are women, about 27% are over 45, and about 37% report household income below $100,000. More than half report at least one chronic condition. Members cite an average of six reasons for buying. Female and male membership have each grown at a compound annual rate above 90% since fiscal 2024.
Oura employs an in-house scientific team of more than 50 PhDs and five MDs, plus a medical advisory board, and works with more than a dozen academic partners. Product development draws on longitudinal member data, individual baselines, and clinical studies.
About 40% of members in the nine months ended June 30, 2026 came through word-of-mouth. The rest come through direct-to-consumer sales, roughly 8,400 retail doors worldwide, and enterprise channels including employers, government bodies, and healthcare partners. International expansion is at an early stage. Aided brand awareness among the target U.S. audience rose from about 15% in Q1 fiscal 2024 to about 38% in Q3 fiscal 2026, per a YouGov study commissioned by the company.
Hardware sales are priced to recover customer acquisition cost at purchase; recurring revenue comes from the membership subscription that follows. The company argues that healthcare is shifting from reactive treatment to continuous, data-driven prevention, and estimates a serviceable addressable market above $90 billion in preventative health. Oura states it does not share member health data without consent.
