Drax Group plc is a British energy company focused on renewable and low-carbon power generation, energy services and biomass supply. Its principal asset is Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire, England, which generates electricity primarily from sustainable biomass. The company completed its conversion from coal-fired generation to biomass and ended commercial coal generation in 2023.

Drax also operates hydroelectric and pumped-storage facilities in Scotland, providing renewable generation and flexible power-storage services to support the electricity grid. Through its biomass operations, the group produces and sources wood pellets, including through facilities and supply-chain activities in North America, for use in its generation business.

The company is developing plans for bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), a technology intended to generate electricity from biomass while capturing and permanently storing carbon dioxide. Drax serves electricity markets in the United Kingdom and has international biomass operations. Will Gardiner has served as Drax’s chief executive officer since 2018.
