The company’s principal coal assets include the Grootegeluk, Leeuwpan, Matla and Belfast mines in South Africa.

Grootegeluk, located in Limpopo province, is one of the world’s larger integrated coal-mining and beneficiation complexes and supplies coal to South Africa’s electricity sector, including Eskom. Exxaro also produces semi-soft coking and metallurgical coal used in industrial applications. Through its investment in renewable energy, including wind-power projects developed through Cennergi, the company has expanded beyond traditional mining and supports South Africa’s energy-transition objectives.

Exxaro was formed in 2006 through the transformation and merger of Kumba Resources’ coal and mineral-sands interests. The company is headquartered in Pretoria, South Africa, and its activities are concentrated in Southern Africa, with products serving domestic and international markets. Exxaro is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and also trades in the United States over the counter under the symbol EXXAF.
