Its refining and marketing operations serve customers in Russia and selected international markets, while the company has also participated in exploration and production projects outside Russia.

Rosneft was established in 1993 as part of the reorganization of Russia’s petroleum industry and expanded significantly through acquisitions, including the purchase of TNK-BP in 2013. The company is majority owned by the Russian state through Rosneftegaz. Igor Sechin has served as Rosneft’s chief executive officer since 2012.
