Founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, the company initially operated in the shipbuilding and aircraft industries before expanding into motor vehicles after World War II. Its Vespa scooter, introduced in 1946, became the company’s best-known product and an internationally recognized symbol of Italian design and mobility.

Piaggio serves markets in Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific through manufacturing operations, subsidiaries, distributors and dealer networks. The group is headquartered in Pontedera, Italy, and operates under the leadership of Michele Colaninno, who serves as chief executive officer.
