Company Overview

SFX Entertainment is a U.S.-based live events and media company that built a portfolio of electronic dance music (EDM) brands and festival platforms. Through ownership and partnerships with promoters and production companies, SFX curated large-scale dance music experiences under a variety of marquee festival names and club events. The company’s operations spanned event production, talent booking, brand management and ticketing services, all focused on the burgeoning global EDM market.

Founded in 2012 by veteran media entrepreneur Robert F.X. Sillerman, SFX set out to consolidate regional dance music promoters into a single publicly traded platform. The company acquired a range of established producers, including ID&T (organizer of Tomorrowland and Sensation), Disco Productions, Made Event (Electric Zoo) and other specialty festivals across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. By leveraging shared marketing, digital ticketing and content distribution, SFX aimed to bring a unified approach to the live music business.

In March 2016, SFX Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States as part of a restructuring plan. The company’s assets were subsequently acquired and reorganized under new ownership, and the former SFX equity continues to trade on the OTC market as a residual interest in the bankruptcy estate. While the original public entity is no longer operational in its prior form, many of the festival brands and event teams continue to operate globally under successor companies.
