Shaw Communications Inc. was a Canadian telecommunications company that provided internet, television, wireless and home telephone services to consumers and businesses. Its cable network supported broadband internet and digital television offerings, while its wireless operations served customers through the Freedom Mobile brand.

Founded in 1966 by J.R. Shaw as Capital Cable Television, the company expanded through cable acquisitions and became one of Canada’s major communications providers. Shaw primarily served customers in Western Canada, with operations and network coverage concentrated in provinces such as Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Its business also included enterprise connectivity and communications services for commercial customers.

Rogers Communications completed its acquisition of Shaw Communications in April 2023, after which Shaw ceased operating as an independent publicly traded company. The Shaw family, including J.R. Shaw and later his son Brad Shaw, played a significant role in the company’s ownership and leadership throughout much of its history.
