Founded in 1978, SSAB was created through the consolidation of Sweden’s state-owned steel operations and has since expanded internationally. The company’s business is organized around specialty steels, European steel products and North American steel products, with production and processing operations in Sweden, Finland and the United States. Through its subsidiaries and brands, including Tibnor and Ruukki Construction, SSAB also distributes steel and provides building products and related services to customers in multiple markets.

SSAB is pursuing a transition toward lower-emission steelmaking through initiatives such as HYBRIT, a collaboration with LKAB and Vattenfall that aims to use hydrogen-based technology instead of coal in iron production. The company is headquartered in Stockholm and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and Nasdaq Helsinki. Its shares also trade over the counter in the United States under the symbol SSAAF.
