Virgin Australia began operations in 2000 as Virgin Blue Airlines before adopting the Virgin Australia brand in 2011. The company entered voluntary administration in 2020 amid the severe disruption to global aviation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and was subsequently acquired by Bain Capital. Virgin Australia is led by Chief Executive Officer Dave Emerson.
