Thursday, Nov. 5, was one of the market’s roughest sessions in years. The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.52%, its worst day since April 2025, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 dropped 6.36%, its steepest decline since March 2020. Selling was driven in part by fears that Democrats’ midterm gains could slow the AI data center buildout, and chip stocks took the brunt, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF NASDAQ: SMH falling by roughly 11%.

Airbnb NASDAQ: ABNB didn’t escape entirely, slipping 3.5% to close at $170.13. But it held up far better than the broader tech market, and it was still up about 3.5% on the week and more than 25% year to date heading into its report. That relative strength made Airbnb's third-quarter earnings release even more interesting. Would the results justify the stock’s outperformance and notable relative strength, or give investors a reason to lock in gains?
At least initially, the answer was clear. Shares jumped about 11% in after-hours trading to trade near $189, within roughly 2% of their 52-week high of $193.45.
Airbnb's Revenue and Booking Growth Accelerate
Airbnb’s third-quarter revenue rose 19% to $4.87 billion, its fastest growth in more than three years and well ahead of the roughly $4.75 billion analysts expected. Earnings of $3.16 per share also beat the $2.85 consensus by 31 cents, though a lower tax provision flattered the year-over-year comparison.
The demand metrics were arguably more impressive. Gross booking value climbed 21% to $27.7 billion, while nights and seats booked rose 16% to 155 million, a sharp acceleration from 10% growth in the second quarter. About three percentage points of that came from the expansion of Airbnb’s Reserve Now, Pay Later option. Even excluding that lift, nights booked grew about 13%, which still marked an acceleration from the prior quarter.
The strength was also broad-based. Every region posted double-digit growth in nights booked, North America grew at its fastest pace in four years, and nights booked through Airbnb’s app rose 29% to account for 66% of the total.
Airbnb Pairs Stronger Guidance With a Major Buyback
Management raised its full-year 2026 outlook for the third time this year. It now expects revenue growth in the high teens, up from at least the mid-teens, along with an adjusted EBITDA margin of about 36%. For the fourth quarter, Airbnb guided revenue to $3.22 billion to $3.28 billion, implying growth of 16% to 18%, including about 2 percentage points from foreign exchange.
The company also authorized a new $12 billion share repurchase program, worth roughly 12% of its market value at Nov. 5’s close, supported by $1.4 billion in free cash flow during the quarter. CEO Brian Chesky described the company as being back in “growth mode.”
Can Airbnb Maintain Its Momentum?
There are a few things to keep an eye on. Management said the net benefit from Reserve Now, Pay Later should come down sequentially in the fourth quarter, so some of the third quarter’s booking boost won’t repeat at the same pace.

Airbnb Stock Forecast DetailsValuation is another consideration. Airbnb trades at a price-to-earnings ratio near 43 following its post-earnings rally, while analysts have begun raising their price targets in response to the results. The consensus analyst price target has climbed to approximately $192, based on 44 analysts with a Moderate Buy consensus rating.
Technically, the bullish structure is clear. After spending almost two years trading in a relatively tight range, shares are now closing in on their 52-week high and a potential breakout level. The last time the stock made a run like this after its second-quarter 2026 results in August, it gave back the earnings surge over the following month, so bulls will be hoping this time is different.
Two things are worth watching closely: whether Airbnb can keep up its relative strength against the broader market, and whether it can hold near its 52-week high while sentiment around tech remains shaky. If the stock holds its earnings gap and builds a base near resistance in the low $190s, it could be well positioned for further upside once the market finds its footing, having already shown it can hold up better than most during the recent turmoil.
Airbnb's Rally Now Depends on Staying Power
Airbnb entered its report as one of the market’s quieter relative strength stories, and the results gave that technical strength a fundamental backbone. Bookings accelerated, guidance moved higher, and capital returns stepped up.
Whether the stock can hold its gains and potentially push to fresh 52-week highs may come down to two things: technically, whether the broader market stabilizes after the Nov. 5 sell-off, and fundamentally, whether booking momentum holds up as the Reserve Now, Pay Later boost fades.
