About Alaunos Therapeutics

Alaunos Therapeutics (NASDAQ:TCRT) was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing genetically engineered T-cell therapies for cancer. Its primary research centered on T-cell receptor (TCR) therapies designed to recognize cancer-associated antigens and target solid tumors, an area that has historically been challenging for cell therapy developers.

The company’s technology portfolio included the Sleeping Beauty nonviral gene-transfer system, which was intended to introduce tumor-targeting TCRs into a patient’s T cells. Alaunos also pursued personalized therapies targeting tumor-specific mutations, commonly known as neoantigens, and evaluated its programs through collaborations and clinical research involving academic and medical institutions, including the National Cancer Institute.

Alaunos was formerly known as Ziopharm Oncology and adopted its current name in 2022. The company was headquartered in Houston, Texas, and its programs were primarily directed toward patients with advanced cancers in the United States. Alaunos subsequently reduced operations and reassessed its development strategy, and publicly available information about its ongoing programs and leadership is limited.
