Core Molding Technologies NYSEAMERICAN: CMT used its first investor day and plant tour in Matamoros, Mexico, to outline a growth strategy centered on commercial expansion, market diversification, manufacturing execution and disciplined capital allocation.

President and CEO Eric Palomaki said the company has moved beyond its turnaround phase and is seeking “profitable growth that expands margins, generates cash, and earns attractive returns on capital.” The company’s 2030 objective is to exceed $500 million in revenue while improving margins, cash generation and returns on capital employed.

Palomaki said Core has strengthened its operating foundation in recent years through investments in leadership, manufacturing systems, capacity and customer relationships. He cited improvements in internal promotions, training, purchasing savings, scrap rates, safety and variable margins. Core’s variable margin averaged about 30% in 2025 and remained in that range during the first two quarters of 2026, according to Palomaki, while companywide scrap averaged below 2% last year.

Commercial pipeline and diversification

Chief Commercial Officer Alex Bantz said Core reorganized its commercial organization after he joined in November 2024. The company created a dedicated business-development team focused on growth and a separate customer-experience team focused on day-to-day account support, quality, delivery and customer scorecards.

According to Bantz, Core recorded $63 million of annual incremental revenue awards in 2025, followed by $26 million during the first half of 2026. He said the company has won nearly $90 million of annual revenue over the first 18 months of the new commercial approach, representing an estimated $400 million of cumulative revenue over the life of those programs.

The company reported a current pipeline representing $1.4 billion of revenue over the projected life of quoted opportunities. That pipeline included nearly $150 million of annual opportunities in the prospecting phase and $210 million of annual opportunities being quoted, negotiated or awaiting an award. Applying Core’s recent win rate to the pipeline would imply about $83 million of annual incremental revenue, Bantz said, while noting that figure is not a forecast.

Management emphasized its intention to diversify beyond heavy truck and powersports markets. Truck represented 44% of Core’s 2025 revenue and powersports represented 27%, according to Palomaki. The company said 65% of new wins over the last two years have come from markets outside those categories.

Core identified five priority markets: truck, powersports, utilities and infrastructure, building products, and construction and agriculture. Potential applications include drainage and water-filtration products, power-generation and data-center components, battery enclosures, exterior building products, decking accessories, medical-bed panels, construction equipment and agricultural equipment.

Mexico investment and manufacturing footprint

Core operates more than 1 million square feet of manufacturing space and 83 presses in North America, with press capacities up to 5,500 tons. Chief Operating Officer Michael Gayford described the footprint as specialized by site, with Columbus serving as Core’s sheet molded compound, or SMC, compounding center; Gaffney focused on truck hoods and battery enclosures; Winona centered on direct long-fiber thermoplastic technology; Cobourg focused on low-pressure injection molding; and the Mexico facilities providing scale and growth capacity.

Executive Vice President of Operations for Mexico Arnold Alanis said Matamoros is Core’s largest site, spanning 600,000 square feet with 672 employees. The facility operates 24 compression-molding presses and supports SMC, DLFT and spray-up processes. Management said Matamoros is the largest heavy-truck roof manufacturing facility in North America.

The company is investing about $25 million in Mexico during 2026, CFO Alex Panda said. About $20 million is directed toward Matamoros, including two 4,500-ton presses and a 50,000-square-foot expansion. The company also moved DCPD processing from Matamoros to Monterrey, where a major DCPD customer is located.

Monterrey has expanded from 50,000 square feet to about 217,000 square feet, according to Alanis. The facility has nine presses and will serve as Core’s center of excellence for DCPD, with added topcoat-paint capability intended to support construction and agriculture opportunities.

Financial framework and 2026 outlook

Panda said Core had no debt and $12 million in cash as of June 30. In July, the company refinanced its debt arrangement, extending its maturity to 2031 and increasing available borrowing capacity to $100 million, consisting of a $50 million revolver and a $50 million delayed-draw term loan.

The company said it evaluates organic investments using a 14% return threshold. For acquisitions, Core is targeting businesses with $50 million to $100 million of revenue, a 14% return by the end of the second year, and leverage below 2.5 times by that point. Management said acquisitions would primarily be intended to accelerate end-market diversification.

Core expects roughly $85 million of previously awarded annual revenue to launch over the next 12 months, with about 90% of that amount scheduled to begin within that period. Panda said the company currently has about $225 million of launched product revenue and views the awarded programs as a path toward $300 million in revenue.

For 2026, Core maintained guidance for sales ranging from flat to up 5%, with Panda saying results were likely to land around the midpoint. Full-year gross margin is expected to be 16% to 17%, reflecting higher resin, diesel and freight costs. The company expects near-term gross margins of 21% to 23% as sales scale and recently won programs launch.

Management also announced a footprint-optimization project expected to cost about $2 million in 2026 and generate approximately $1 million in annual savings going forward.
