Key Points

  • Hycroft is evaluating a near-term heap-leach restart at its Nevada mine, supported by existing permits, leach-pad capacity and a debt-free balance sheet with $221 million in cash. Metallurgical testing is underway to confirm oxide recoveries and potential cash-flow timing.
  • The company highlighted a resource exceeding 1.8 billion silver-equivalent ounces, including high-grade silver at the Brimstone and Vortex deposits. These systems could support an underground, silver-focused development, while a larger open-pit sulfide project would be more gold-oriented.
  • Hycroft’s sulfide PEA projects a 51-year mine life and a $4.3 billion after-tax NPV under base-case metal prices, rising to roughly $10 billion at cited spot prices. Ongoing drilling continues to expand high-grade discoveries, with recent results including 30.5 meters grading 780 grams of silver.

Hycroft Mining NASDAQ: HYMC outlined multiple potential development paths for its Nevada precious-metals project, emphasizing the scale of its resource, balance-sheet position, high-grade silver discoveries and ongoing drilling program.

During a company presentation, Hycroft said it held $221 million in cash and had no debt. The company described its Nevada location as a competitive advantage, citing the state’s mining infrastructure, experienced labor force and established permitting environment.

Hycroft reported measured and indicated resources of more than 1.8 billion silver-equivalent ounces, or about 24 million gold-equivalent ounces, with additional inferred resources. The company said its land package spans more than 64,000 acres, of which approximately 15% has been explored.

The company also said it has identified high-grade silver mineralization beneath its existing pit at the Brimstone and Vortex deposits. These two systems contain a measured and indicated resource of 90.2 million ounces of silver, along with roughly 300,000 ounces of gold, according to the presentation. Inferred resources at the systems include 13.3 million ounces of silver and 51,000 ounces of gold.

Potential Production Pathways

Hycroft said restarting its existing heap-leach operation is a near-term priority, although it is still assessing the timing and optimal sequencing of a restart relative to development of the larger sulfide resource. The company said it has existing leach-pad capacity, permits and an on-site workforce, and has completed reverse-circulation drilling to better define remaining oxide material. Metallurgical testing is underway to confirm recoveries.

The company said a heap-leach restart could generate cash flow relatively quickly if it proceeds. Heap leaching had operated at the property from the late 1980s and 1990s until operations stopped in 2022, according to management.

For the broader sulfide project, Hycroft described two principal alternatives that could be pursued separately or together:

  • An underground mine focused initially on the higher-grade, silver-dominant Brimstone and Vortex systems.
  • An open-pit operation processing the wider sulfide resource, potentially using roasting instead of pressure oxidation, or POX.

The company said the underground concept could use two exploration declines connected to Brimstone and Vortex. Those declines would support additional underground drilling and potentially production. Hycroft has engaged RESPEC to assess mining alternatives and develop a conceptual mine plan.

Management said Brimstone and Vortex are silver dominant, with an estimated revenue mix of approximately 75% silver and 25% gold depending on metal-price assumptions. By contrast, the broader sulfide resource is estimated to have a revenue mix of roughly 70% gold and 30% silver. Hycroft said an underground development would initially be more silver focused, while the larger open-pit approach would be more gold focused.

PEA and Processing Review

Hycroft’s recently published preliminary economic assessment, or PEA, for the broader sulfide resource assumes a conventional open-pit mine using a POX plant. At base-case assumptions of $3,600 per ounce of gold and $48 per ounce of silver, the PEA showed an after-tax net present value of $4.3 billion, the company said.

At spot prices cited in the presentation, Hycroft said the PEA’s after-tax net present value increased to roughly $10 billion, with an internal rate of return nearing 30%. The study outlined a 51-year mine life averaging 295,000 gold-equivalent ounces annually, with a base-case payback period of 4.7 years and a payback period of less than three years at spot pricing.

The company noted that 6.8 million ounces of gold in the inferred category were not included in the mine plan and that the PEA does not incorporate results from its ongoing 2025 and 2026 drilling campaign.

Hycroft is also evaluating roasting as an alternative to POX. Management said roasting could create a third potential revenue stream through sulfuric-acid production, which it said is used by lithium, copper and fertilizer industries. The company said it has completed metallurgical testing for the roasting option and is reviewing the associated economics.

Drilling, Ownership and Leadership Changes

The company said recent drilling returned 30.5 meters grading 780 grams of silver at Vortex and 5.5 meters grading more than 1,300 grams of silver at Brimstone. Both systems remain open in all directions and at depth, according to Hycroft.

Hycroft currently has two core rigs and one reverse-circulation rig operating at the site and plans to add two core rigs in coming months. Beyond Brimstone and Vortex, the company said mapping, soil geochemistry, induced-polarization surveys and drone imagery have identified additional district-scale targets for testing.

Management said the company is 84% institutionally owned, with Eric Sprott as its largest shareholder. Hycroft also cited its inclusion in the Russell 3000 Index, GDXJ, MSCI World Small Cap Index and Solactive Global Gold Miners Index.

The company recently appointed Michael Deal as chief operating officer. It also added Richard O’Brien, Marcelo Godoy, Josh Olmsted and Blake Rhodes to its board, with O’Brien becoming lead independent director.

About Hycroft Mining (NASDAQ:HYMC)

Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation is a U.S.-based precious metals exploration and development company focused on the Hycroft Mine, a large open-pit gold and silver project in Humboldt County, Nevada, near Winnemucca. The company owns and operates the project through its subsidiary, Hycroft Mining Corporation.

The Hycroft Mine historically produced gold and silver using open-pit mining and heap-leach processing. Following a period of operations under previous ownership, mining activities were suspended, and Hycroft has since focused primarily on exploration, resource evaluation, metallurgical testing, and technical studies intended to assess potential future development and production options.

Hycroft's activities are concentrated in the United States, particularly at its Nevada property.
