Red Violet NASDAQ: RDVT outlined its identity intelligence platform, growth strategy and plans to use recently raised capital for acquisitions during a company presentation led by Camilo Ramirez, senior vice president of finance and head of investor relations.

Ramirez said the company seeks to provide identity-related information for transactions across the U.S. economy by aggregating disparate databases into what it describes as a 75-year longitudinal identity graph of the adult U.S. population. The platform is designed to help customers verify identities, assess fraud and financial-crime risk, conduct investigations and support safety-related screening.

He said Red Violet’s management team has worked together for roughly three decades, including prior businesses that were sold to LexisNexis and TransUnion. Ramirez said the current company was designed as a cloud-native platform with artificial intelligence embedded from its inception, differentiating it from legacy systems built around data warehouses.

Five Vertical Markets

Red Violet serves five principal verticals: collections, investigative, financial and corporate risk, emerging markets, and real estate.

In collections, Ramirez said customers use the company’s data to locate the correct person, identify deceased consumers and flag bankruptcies before attempting collection activity. He described a “waterfall” model in which Red Violet may initially receive records that have already been unsuccessfully reviewed by other providers, then seeks to demonstrate a higher hit rate and move up in customer priority tiers.

In the investigative market, the company serves law enforcement agencies, private investigators and public-sector users. Ramirez said Red Violet currently powers about 1,000 law enforcement agencies in the U.S., compared with an estimated 15,000 to 17,000 agencies nationally. He said the company recently won a multiyear, “well into six figures” contract with what management described as the largest law enforcement agency in the U.S.

According to Ramirez, the agency selected Red Violet over a competitor that sought to lower its price, citing accuracy and completeness rather than price as the deciding factors. The company’s investigative tools can also support homestead-exemption fraud reviews, school residency verification and veteran-benefit outreach, he said.

Ramirez said Red Violet’s federal public-sector efforts have trailed the company’s original expectations because procurement cycles have been longer than anticipated. However, he said its federal pipeline has expanded significantly over the past two years and that some nationwide initiatives have shifted toward state-level contracts.

Technology and Data Approach

In financial and corporate risk, Red Violet supports uses such as know-your-customer compliance and background screening. Ramirez cited a relationship involving Innovative, a background-screening provider acquired by Appriss and subsequently Equifax. He said the customer ultimately renewed a long-term agreement with Red Violet after determining it could not generate comparable results using Equifax’s data.

Ramirez said the company’s competitive positioning is based not only on the data it accesses, but also on its ability to connect and process information. He said Red Violet uses a proprietary identity-resolution language called IRON, while allowing data scientists to work in other coding languages before their work is incorporated into the company’s system.

He also emphasized the company’s cloud-native infrastructure, saying it can scale to support increases in customer throughput. Red Violet’s platform uses artificial intelligence to process unstructured information, including obituary data and legal complaints, in an effort to identify relationships and expand identity profiles, he said.

Ramirez said the company has more than 10,000 customers, compared with approximately 400,000 for LexisNexis and 60,000 to 70,000 for TransUnion’s comparable operations. Management estimates its total addressable market at $10 billion.

FOREWARN Expansion Into Home Healthcare

In real estate, Red Violet offers its FOREWARN safety application to real estate associations. Ramirez said the company works with more than 600 real estate associations, representing more than 50% penetration of an estimated 1,100 to 1,200 associations in the U.S.

The company recently introduced FOREWARN to the home healthcare market. Ramirez said the application is intended to help providers assess potential household risks before sending workers to a patient’s home. The company estimates there are roughly 4 million home healthcare providers and 12,000 Medicare-certified practices.

Rather than serving as a reactionary emergency tool, FOREWARN is intended to provide advance information that could help providers decide whether to send more than one worker to an initial visit or decline an assignment, Ramirez said. He added that Red Violet sees potential to expand the safety product into other industries involving face-to-face interactions.

Contract Model, Capital Raise and M&A

Ramirez said most Red Violet contracts are 12-month agreements with automatic renewals and usage-based pricing. About 80% of revenue is contractual, he said. The company uses long-term contracts for its data assets and described its data costs as largely fixed, allowing revenue growth to carry high incremental margins.

The company had more than 120 customers generating at least $100,000 in annual revenue last year, compared with about 90 in the prior year and approximately 70 before that, according to Ramirez.

Red Violet recently raised about $115 million in an all-equity capital raise without warrants, Ramirez said. The company intends to use the proceeds to pursue mergers and acquisitions, as well as invest in sales, go-to-market efforts and other organic growth initiatives.

Ramirez said the company evaluates acquisition targets based on whether they offer unique data assets, differentiated technology or adjacent services. At maturity, management expects gross profit margins to exceed 90% and adjusted EBITDA margins to reach 60% to 65%, based on the company’s fixed-cost model and expected contribution margins from additional revenue.
