Eton Pharmaceuticals NASDAQ: ETON reported third-quarter revenue of $57.9 million, up 158% from a year earlier, and raised its full-year outlook after a full quarter of sales from HEMANGEOL and growth across its product portfolio.
The rare disease drugmaker now expects 2026 revenue of more than $175 million, up from its previous forecast of more than $145 million. It also raised its full-year adjusted EBITDA margin outlook to more than 40% from more than 35%.
CEO Sean Brynjelsen said the quarter’s revenue put Eton above its goal of reaching a $200 million annualized revenue run rate by the end of 2027. He also said the company is approaching its goal of a 50% adjusted EBITDA margin by 2028, although he cautioned that margins could fluctuate with research and development spending.
HEMANGEOL Helps Drive Growth and Margins
Third-quarter revenue rose from $22.5 million a year earlier. Chief Business Officer David Krempa said the biggest sequential growth driver was HEMANGEOL, which Eton relaunched on May 1. The third quarter included three full months of sales, compared with a partial contribution in the second quarter.
Eton does not disclose revenue by product, but Krempa said several products were selling better than originally forecast. Brynjelsen said active patient counts reached records across Eton’s key branded products, including INCRELEX, HEMANGEOL, ALKINDI SPRINKLE, KHINDIVI, GALZIN and DESMODA.
Adjusted gross margin expanded to 80% from 45% a year earlier. CFO Judy Matthews said Eton expects its full-year adjusted gross margin to approach 75% and increase further in 2027. Fourth-quarter cost of sales will include a one-time $4 million commercial milestone payment tied to the ALKINDI licensing agreement; the payment will not be excluded from adjusted gross margin.
Adjusted EBITDA rose to $28.5 million, or 49% of revenue, from $2.9 million, or 13% of revenue, a year earlier. The latest figure includes a $3 million licensing payment for ASN-001.
Net income was $35.2 million, or $1.06 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $1.9 million, or 7 cents per share, a year earlier. The latest quarter included a noncash income tax benefit related to the release of valuation allowances on certain deferred tax assets. Excluding that benefit and other adjustments, non-GAAP net income was $16.5 million, or 50 cents per diluted share.
Eton ended the quarter with $55.6 million in cash and $22 million in outstanding debt principal after a $5 million debt prepayment. Brynjelsen said the company generated $35 million in operating cash flow during the quarter and plans to continue pursuing late-stage or commercial rare disease assets.
LIBERVANT Launch Targeted for April 2027
Eton recently licensed LIBERVANT, a buccal film for seizure clusters in patients with epilepsy. The product has tentative FDA approval for patients ages 2 to 5 and 12 and older. An application under review would add ages 6 to 11, with a late-March target action date.
Brynjelsen said Eton anticipates launching LIBERVANT in April 2027, subject to final FDA approval and resolution of applicable exclusivity restrictions. He estimated that the U.S. seizure rescue treatment market exceeds $450 million annually.
Chief Commercial Officer Ipek Trinkaus said Eton plans a dedicated, targeted sales force likely to have fewer than 20 people. Within the pediatric market, she said the company sees the greatest opportunity among children older than 5 and younger than their teenage years.
For HEMANGEOL, Trinkaus said Eton is working to gain use among patients receiving generic off-label oral formulations. The company has not yet changed its sales force but is considering a modest expansion next year.
Pipeline Advances, With More Work on ET-700
Brynjelsen said Eton’s pipeline includes nine programs, three of which could launch in 2027. The company recently added ET-900, an investigational treatment for infantile spasms that uses the active ingredient in INCRELEX. An investigator-initiated Phase 2 study is expected to begin enrollment in the first quarter of 2027, with preliminary data potentially available by midyear.
Eton also reported proof-of-concept results for ET-700, its extended-release zinc product. Treatment-related adverse events occurred in one of 12 ET-700 participants, compared with eight of 12 participants receiving GALZIN. ET-700 blocked copper absorption better than placebo but not as well as GALZIN.
Brynjelsen said Eton believes the tested formulation released too slowly and plans to test faster-release formulations in additional study arms during 2027. He said the company hopes to improve efficacy while preserving tolerability, but those results remain to be established.
For ASN-001, a potential topical treatment for infantile hemangiomas, Eton expects to begin dosing patients in a bioavailability study in January and submit a new drug application in mid-2027. The company is targeting a potential approval and launch in 2028.
Eton’s KHINDIVI prior approval supplement has a May 28, 2027, target action date, and the company plans to be ready to launch shortly after a potential approval. It also expects to submit an application for glibenclamide oral suspension for neonatal diabetes in the coming months, with a potential 2027 launch.
Brynjelsen said he is optimistic Eton can reach its previously stated goal of $500 million in annual revenue by 2030 earlier than planned, but he did not provide a revised date.
