Signature Bank was a New York-based full-service commercial bank that provided banking and financial services to privately owned businesses, their owners and other high-net-worth clients. Its offerings included business checking and savings accounts, cash-management services, commercial lending, real estate finance, personal banking and wealth-management services.

Founded in 2001, the bank operated through private client banking teams and served customers primarily in the New York metropolitan area, as well as in California and other U.S. markets. Signature Bank also developed specialized businesses focused on commercial real estate, multifamily lending, venture banking and digital-asset-related payments, including its Signet platform.

Joseph J. DePaolo, a co-founder, served as Signature Bank’s president and chief executive officer for most of its history. The New York State Department of Financial Services closed the bank in March 2023, after which the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was appointed receiver. Certain deposits and banking operations were subsequently transferred to Flagstar Bank, a subsidiary of New York Community Bancorp.
