The company also produces sulfuric acid and other related byproducts and specialty metals through its integrated mining and smelting operations.

Nexa operates mines and metallurgical facilities in Brazil and Peru, serving industrial customers and markets that use zinc and other base metals in applications such as galvanizing, construction, transportation, infrastructure and manufacturing. Its operations include underground and open-pit mines, concentrators and zinc smelters, supported by exploration and development projects intended to expand its mineral resource base.

The company was created in 2017 through the combination and rebranding of mining and smelting assets formerly operated by Votorantim Metais, part of the Brazilian Votorantim group. Nexa Resources completed its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in 2017 and remains associated with Votorantim, which has historically been its principal shareholder.
