In 2012, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was subsequently acquired by China’s Wanxiang Group in early 2013. Under new ownership, A123 restructured its operations, resumed cell production and expanded its global footprint, with R&D centers in North America, Europe and Asia.
