Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. is a Japanese airline and the core company of the Japan Airlines Group. Its operations are supported by related businesses including airport services, aircraft maintenance, travel services, loyalty programs and other services connected to air transportation.

Japan Airlines serves destinations throughout Japan and connects the country with major cities across Asia, North America, Europe and other international markets. The group operates under the Japan Airlines brand and works with alliance and codeshare partners to expand its global network. Its loyalty program, JAL Mileage Bank, and associated travel and customer services are also important parts of its offering.

The airline was established in 1951 and became a private company in 1987. After filing for bankruptcy protection in 2010, Japan Airlines underwent a restructuring and returned to the public markets in 2012. Mitsuko Tottori became the company’s president and chief executive officer in 2024, succeeding Yuji Akasaka, who became chairman.
