The company pursued partnerships with feedstock suppliers and engineering contractors in the Southeast United States, reflecting its focus on abundant biomass resources in that region. In 2014, after scaling challenges and production shortfalls, KiOR filed for bankruptcy protection, and its assets were subsequently acquired through restructuring.
