Newcrest Mining Limited was an Australian-based gold and copper mining company that operated mines, developed projects and conducted exploration activities across Australia, Papua New Guinea and Canada. Its principal products were gold and copper, with operations supported by processing, infrastructure and related mining services.

The company’s major assets included the Cadia mine in New South Wales, the Lihir mine in Papua New Guinea, and the Brucejack and Red Chris mines in British Columbia, Canada. Newcrest also held interests in other exploration and development projects, including the Telfer operation in Western Australia.

Newcrest was established in 1990 through the merger of Newmont Australia Limited and BHP Gold Mines Limited and became one of Australia’s largest gold producers. Newmont Corporation completed its acquisition of Newcrest in October 2023, after which Newcrest ceased to operate as an independent publicly listed company. The former company’s assets and operations are now managed within Newmont’s global mining business.
