Telstra traces its origins to Telecom Australia, the former government-owned national telecommunications provider. It adopted the Telstra name in the 1990s as Australia’s telecommunications sector was opened to competition and the business was progressively privatized. Telstra Group Limited became the parent company of the Telstra Group in 2022. The company is led by Chief Executive Officer Vicki Brady.
