The business traces its origins to 1919, when Jack Cohen began selling groceries from a market stall in London. The first Tesco-branded store opened in 1929, and the company subsequently expanded into a nationwide supermarket and international retail group. Tesco is led by Chief Executive Officer Ken Murphy and Chairman Gerry Murphy.
