About George Weston

George Weston (OTCMKTS:WNGRF) Limited is a Canadian holding company with principal interests in food retailing, consumer products and commercial real estate. Its largest operating investment is Loblaw Companies Limited, which operates supermarkets, discount stores, pharmacies and other retail businesses across Canada under brands including Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart and T&T. Loblaw also provides financial services and operates loyalty and consumer-commerce platforms.

George Weston also has an interest in Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a Canadian owner and operator of retail and commercial properties. Choice Properties’ portfolio includes grocery-anchored shopping centres and other properties that support tenants such as Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart. Through these businesses, George Weston primarily serves customers and commercial tenants in Canada.

The company traces its history to 1882, when George Weston began a bakery business in Toronto. It expanded over time through food manufacturing, retailing and real estate investments. George Weston sold its Weston Foods fresh and frozen bakery business in 2021, leaving the company focused primarily on its investments in Loblaw and Choice Properties. The Weston family has historically played a significant role in the company’s ownership and leadership.
