About Greenlight Capital Re

Greenlight Capital Re (NASDAQ:GLRE) was a Bermuda-based specialty property and casualty reinsurance company established in 2004. The company was founded with backing from Greenlight Capital and was designed to combine traditional reinsurance underwriting with alternative investment expertise.

Through its reinsurance operations, Greenlight Re provided customized coverage and capacity to insurance companies and other risk-bearing organizations. Its business included property, casualty and specialty lines, with underwriting focused on areas such as catastrophe-exposed property, workers’ compensation, liability and other commercial risks. The company also used collateralized and other alternative reinsurance structures to serve clients with specialized capital needs.

Greenlight Re primarily served the global insurance and reinsurance markets from its Bermuda base, with business written across multiple geographic regions through its operating platforms. David Einhorn, founder of Greenlight Capital, was historically associated with the company’s leadership and strategy. Greenlight Capital Re later became a privately held company and is no longer publicly traded on Nasdaq.
