About Hydro One

Hydro One (OTCMKTS:HRNNF) Ltd. is a Canadian electricity transmission and distribution utility headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The company operates the largest high-voltage transmission network in the province, delivering power from generating stations to local distributors, municipalities and major industrial customers. In addition to its transmission business, Hydro One provides distribution services to a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial end users, maintaining poles, wires and related infrastructure that connect approximately 1.4 million customers across urban and rural communities.

Tracing its origins to the Ontario Hydro Electric Power Commission established in 1906, Hydro One emerged in its current form following the restructuring of Ontario’s vertically integrated power authority in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This reorganization separated generation, transmission and distribution into distinct entities, with Hydro One assuming responsibility for the province’s transmission and local distribution networks. The company completed an initial public offering in 2015, while the Government of Ontario retains a controlling interest in its voting shares.

Hydro One’s transmission network spans more than 30,000 circuit kilometres of high-voltage lines and connects generating stations to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) grid. Its distribution footprint encompasses some 125,000 circuit kilometres of lower-voltage lines, serving communities from major metropolitan areas to remote northern regions. The company also offers ancillary services including metering, system planning, field maintenance and vegetation management, ensuring the reliability and safety of its electricity networks.

In recent years, Hydro One has placed strategic emphasis on grid modernization and the integration of renewable energy sources. Investments in advanced metering infrastructure, system automation and digital monitoring tools aim to enhance operational efficiency, support demand management programs and improve outage response times. Through these initiatives, the company seeks to fortify Ontario’s energy grid while advancing sustainability and customer service improvements across its service territory.
