About PMI

The PMI (NYSEAMERICAN:PMI) Group, Inc. was a financial services holding company focused primarily on private mortgage insurance. Through its operating subsidiaries, the company provided mortgage insurance that helped protect lenders and investors against losses when residential borrowers defaulted on home loans.

PMI’s principal business was residential mortgage insurance in the United States. The company also operated internationally, including through mortgage insurance activities in Australia, and offered related risk-management and mortgage-finance services. Its products were generally distributed through mortgage lenders and other participants in the residential housing finance market.

The PMI Group was led by Steve Smith during its final years as a publicly traded company. Following significant losses related to the U.S. housing and mortgage crisis, the company’s insurance operations entered runoff and the business ultimately ceased operating as an active public company.
