Founded in late 2016 in Fremont, California, by Jun “James” Peng and Tiancheng Lou, Pony.ai is headquartered in Guangzhou, China. Pony.ai provides public-facing, fare-charging, fully driverless Robotaxi services in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen and has expanded its operations and partnerships into Europe, East Asia, the Middle East and other international markets.
Peng serves as chairman and chief executive officer. Before founding Pony.ai, he was chief architect at Baidu, where he was responsible for research and development within the company’s autonomous driving unit, and previously worked at Alphabet. Lou serves as executive director and chief technology officer and previously worked in Alphabet’s autonomous driving unit, Quora and Baidu. Toyota Motor Corporation is a major shareholder and strategic partner of Pony.ai.
Pony.ai completed its initial public offering in November 2024. Its American depositary shares, each representing one Class A ordinary share, trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol PONY. The company’s Class A ordinary shares have also traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under stock code 2026 since November 2025.
