About SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust

SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust (OTCMKTS:CWYUF) is a Canada-based real estate investment trust specializing in the ownership, development and management of retail-focused commercial properties. The trust’s portfolio is anchored predominantly by Walmart Canada, complemented by a mix of other national and regional tenants. SmartCentres targets high-traffic, community-centric locations, offering grocery, discount department, service and specialty retailers within its shopping centres.

Originally established in 1994, the trust has grown through a combination of development, strategic acquisitions and redevelopments. In 2015, the entity rebranded as SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust to reflect its relationship with SmartCentres Development Ltd., under the leadership of Executive Chairman Mitchell Goldhar. Over the years, the trust has introduced a “next-generation retail” concept, integrating enhanced customer experiences, food service and lifestyle amenities into its properties.

SmartCentres REIT’s portfolio extends across five Canadian provinces, including Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. Its properties range from large-scale power centres to neighbourhood retail plazas and mixed-use developments. In recent years, the trust has pursued transit-oriented and urban infill projects, incorporating residential towers, office space and public realm enhancements to create more vibrant, multifunctional communities.

Day-to-day operations are overseen by an experienced management team led by Mitchell Goldhar as Executive Chairman. The team focuses on asset optimization, development pipeline execution and tenant diversification, while maintaining strong relationships with major retail partners. Through disciplined capital allocation and a development-driven growth strategy, SmartCentres REIT aims to deliver stable cash flows and long-term value for unitholders.
