MPLX LP (NYSE:MPLX) is a diversified master limited partnership that owns and operates midstream energy infrastructure in the United States. The company provides transportation, storage and logistics services for crude oil, refined petroleum products, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs), primarily under long-term commercial arrangements with energy producers, refiners and other customers.

MPLX’s assets include crude oil and refined-products pipelines, storage facilities, marine and inland waterway terminals, rail and truck transportation operations, and gathering and processing systems. Through its gathering and processing business, the partnership also handles natural gas and NGLs in several major U.S. producing regions, including the Marcellus and Utica shales, the Permian Basin and the Bakken region.

MPLX was formed by Marathon Petroleum Corporation in 2012 to own and develop midstream assets supporting Marathon Petroleum’s refining and marketing operations. Over time, the partnership has expanded through acquisitions and organic projects, while continuing to serve customers across key U.S. energy-producing and refining markets. Marathon Petroleum remains MPLX’s sponsor and a significant business partner.
