Key Points

  • Keurig Dr Pepper delivered strong Q3 results: Net sales rose 70.1%, boosted by the JDE Peet’s acquisition, while legacy sales increased 8.6% and adjusted EPS climbed 22.2% to $0.66.
  • Refreshment Beverages remained a key growth engine, with sales up 10.9% and continued momentum from Dr Pepper, GHOST and Electrolit. U.S. Coffee sales grew just 2.7% as value-conscious consumers favored lower-cost formats over single-serve products.
  • KDP raised its expected EPS contribution from JDE Peet’s but lowered legacy EPS growth guidance to 3%–5% because of U.S. Coffee pressure. The company is using asset-sale proceeds to reduce debt and remains on track for an early-2027 separation into beverage and coffee businesses.
  • Five stocks to consider instead of Keurig Dr Pepper.

Keurig Dr Pepper NASDAQ: KDP reported third-quarter results marked by substantial sales growth from its JDE Peet’s acquisition, continued double-digit growth in U.S. Refreshment Beverages and improving, though still challenged, trends in U.S. Coffee.

Total net sales increased 70.1% in the quarter, including the contribution from JDE Peet’s, which KDP acquired in April. Excluding JDE Peet’s, legacy KDP sales rose 8.6%, driven by 6.5 percentage points of volume-mix growth and 2.1 percentage points of net price realization. Adjusted earnings per share rose 22.2% to $0.66, while operating income increased 52.5%.

CEO Tim Cofer said the company remains on track to meet its principal 2026 objectives: delivering low-double-digit EPS growth, integrating JDE Peet’s and capturing initial combination benefits, and progressing toward its planned separation into two public companies in early 2027.

Refreshment beverages extend growth streak

U.S. Refreshment Beverages posted net sales growth of 10.9%, supported by 7.2 percentage points of volume-mix growth and 3.7 points from pricing. Segment operating income grew 8.3%, as sales growth and productivity savings more than offset inflation and increased marketing spending.

Cofer said the segment recorded its eighth consecutive quarter of double-digit net sales growth. Carbonated soft drinks remained a major contributor, with Dr Pepper net sales rising at a double-digit rate and the Dr Pepper Zero franchise delivering 25% retail sales growth. The zero-sugar platform now exceeds $1 billion on an annualized retail-sales basis, according to the company.

Canada Dry also posted double-digit sales growth, aided by marketing and the Strawberry Fruit Splash line extension. KDP also introduced a refresh of 7UP, including new graphics, a reformulation and marketing positioning it as a lime-forward alternative within citrus soda.

In energy drinks, KDP said its portfolio surpassed 10% category market share, compared with roughly 6% when it acquired GHOST several years ago. GHOST became the company’s fourth billion-dollar retail-sales brand within Refreshment Beverages, joining Dr Pepper, Canada Dry and Mott’s. The company said it plans to add GHOST A&W Root Beer and GHOST 7UP to its permanent lineup in 2027.

Electrolit retail sales increased more than 40% during the quarter. The sports drink brand has reached 9% market share, more than doubling its position since its distribution partnership with KDP began three years ago, the company said.

U.S. Coffee sales rise, but consumer value pressures persist

U.S. Coffee net sales grew 2.7%, as volume mix added 6.9 percentage points but lower net price realization reduced sales by 4.2 points. KDP said it reinvested moderating green-coffee costs in trade spending and promotions to improve price points and competitive price gaps.

Brewer shipments increased 16.7% year over year, while pod shipments grew 0.3%. Pod growth reflected contributions from Peet’s K-Cup pods and new private-label distribution wins.

However, management said the U.S. single-serve category has been softer than expected as consumers show greater value sensitivity after several years of coffee price increases. Lower-cost formats, including roast and ground, whole bean and instant coffee, have been outperforming single-serve products. KDP also cited increasing private-label penetration in total coffee and single serve.

“We believe that behavior is more consistent with a more temporary and cyclical response to the macro environment versus a fundamental change in consumer preferences,” Cofer said, noting that Keurig household penetration remains healthy but usage frequency within existing households has come under pressure.

U.S. Coffee operating income rose 11.4%, aided by tariff refunds. CFO Anthony DiSilvestro said operating profit would have been slightly down without the refunds, though it improved meaningfully from the first half. The company expects year-over-year growth in underlying fourth-quarter U.S. Coffee profitability, but at a more gradual pace than previously anticipated.

KDP also launched the Keurig Alta system, a premium brewer using plastic-free and aluminum-free consumables. The initial rollout is limited to direct-to-consumer channels, with the company describing the launch as measured and focused on building longer-term potential.

JDE Peet’s exceeds expectations as integration advances

JDE Peet’s generated approximately $2.6 billion in third-quarter net sales and $480 million in operating income. Management said pricing, productivity savings, cost synergies and disciplined execution supported profitability, even as certain pass-through coffee formats experienced lower pricing in response to declining coffee costs.

KDP said marketplace performance improved as retailer negotiations were resolved and market share trends strengthened for brands including Jacobs and L’OR. Innovation contributed to performance, including liquid espresso concentrate products that are now available in 20 countries and a matcha latte platform that began expanding after its late second-quarter launch.

The company raised its anticipated EPS contribution from JDE Peet’s to 7 to 8 percentage points, from a prior expectation of 6 to 7 points. At the same time, KDP lowered its outlook for legacy KDP EPS growth to 3% to 5%, from 4% to 6%, reflecting its more cautious U.S. Coffee outlook.

Cash flow, debt reduction and separation plans

KDP generated $1 billion of free cash flow in the third quarter and maintained its target of about $2.5 billion for the full year. The company also announced agreements to monetize its minority stake in Chobani and sell a non-core manufacturing facility, actions expected to generate roughly $925 million in pre-tax proceeds, or approximately $780 million after tax.

KDP plans to use the proceeds for debt repayment. Pro forma management leverage ended the quarter at 4.1 times, an improvement from midyear, according to DiSilvestro.

The company reaffirmed its total-company sales outlook of $25.9 billion to $26.4 billion for 2026, including an expected $8.3 billion to $8.4 billion contribution from JDE Peet’s. It also reaffirmed guidance for low-double-digit constant-currency EPS growth.

On the planned separation, Cofer said KDP has established organizational structures and leadership teams for its future Beverage Co. and Global Coffee Co. Russ Torres joined KDP as the future CEO of Global Coffee Co. and will lead the coffee operating unit through the separation process.

KDP continues to target an early-2027 separation, though Cofer said timing remains subject to market conditions and other customary considerations.
