Key Points

  • Dexterra’s Q3 revenue and profitability increased: Revenue rose 4% to CAD 291 million, adjusted EBITDA climbed 9% to CAD 38 million, and adjusted EPS increased 12% to CAD 0.28. Higher workforce accommodation occupancy and a shift toward rental revenue supported margins.
  • Segment performance was mixed but margins improved: Support services adjusted EBITDA rose 18% to CAD 29 million, while asset-based adjusted EBITDA held at CAD 16 million as its margin expanded to 41% on a higher rental mix. Management expects the asset-based margin to be at the high end of its 30%–40% range in 2026.
  • Cash generation strengthened the balance sheet: Quarterly free cash flow was CAD 38 million, reducing net debt to CAD 193 million and leverage to 1.4 times. Dexterra is also expanding deployable accommodation capacity, with plans to pursue another 1,500 beds over the next 12 months.
  • Five stocks to consider instead of Dexterra Group.

Dexterra Group TSE: DXT reported higher third-quarter revenue and profitability as strong workforce accommodation occupancy and rental activity helped offset lower wildfire support and project-related installation work.

Revenue rose to CAD 291 million from CAD 281 million a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA increased 9% to CAD 38 million. The adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 13% from 12.5%, and adjusted net earnings per share rose 12% to CAD 0.28.

CEO Mark Becker said the company benefited from a shift toward higher-margin rental revenue, operational efficiencies and its investment in U.S. facilities management business PVC. Dexterra also surpassed CAD 1 billion in market capitalization for the first time during the quarter, he said.

Occupancy lifts support services margins

Support services revenue increased 8% to CAD 253 million, supported by workforce accommodation occupancy, U.S. facilities management growth and the Right Choice acquisition. Organic growth was 4.5%, despite lower-than-normal wildfire support activity.

Segment adjusted EBITDA rose 18% to CAD 29 million, and its margin expanded to 11.5% from 10.5%. CFO Denise Achonu said high occupancy in workforce accommodations was the principal driver of the stronger margin. She noted that the third quarter is typically the company’s strongest from both an operating and margin perspective.

Dexterra’s 40% investment in PVC contributed CAD 1.3 million to quarterly adjusted EBITDA, up from CAD 0.9 million a year earlier. Excluding PVC, the support services margin was 11%, compared with 10% in the prior-year quarter. PVC’s revenue is not included in Dexterra’s reported revenue because the investment is accounted for using the equity method.

Achonu said Dexterra expects PVC to be largely cash-flow neutral in the near term while it modernizes the PVC Connect software platform and builds the team to support U.S. growth. Dexterra has an option to acquire the remaining 60% of PVC as early as October 1, 2027.

Rental mix boosts asset-based margins

Asset Based Services revenue was CAD 39 million. Higher-margin rental revenue rose 2.3%, while installation and demobilization revenue fell CAD 10 million year over year, primarily because of project timing.

Segment adjusted EBITDA held steady at CAD 16 million, but the margin climbed to 41% from 34%. Achonu attributed the improvement primarily to a greater proportion of rental revenue and said the company expects the segment’s 2026 margin to be at the higher end of its 30% to 40% range.

Becker said some workforce accommodation mobilization activity could occur in the fourth quarter, with more expected in 2027 and potentially increasing through that year. He also said wildfire support activity was about half of a normal year or less. Management confirmed that a typical year is generally around CAD 25 million, although activity can vary widely.

Bed capacity and project pipeline

Dexterra is pursuing workforce accommodation and facilities management opportunities across Canadian energy, mining, defense, infrastructure, power, road and data center projects. Becker described the remote-services pipeline as potentially the largest the company has seen, but said awards and revenue will depend on client, regulatory and procurement processes.

The company recently acquired approximately 500 workforce accommodation beds and is pursuing another 1,500 over the next 12 months. Becker said Dexterra currently has about 2,500 fleet beds available for deployment; adding the 1,500 beds would bring deployable capacity to 4,000 and total fleet capacity to 14,000.

Third-quarter capital spending included CAD 12 million in growth capital associated with the 500-bed acquisition. In response to analyst questions, Achonu clarified that a further couple of million dollars could be needed to fully refurbish those beds. Becker said the acquisition and refurbishment cost could serve as a rough guide for the additional capacity.

Becker also said Dexterra has seen some pricing increases in open camps, turnkey projects and equipment rentals. Further changes will depend in part on equipment availability as projects are awarded and capacity is deployed.

Cash flow reduces debt

Dexterra generated CAD 38 million in free cash flow during the quarter and CAD 61 million year to date. Net debt fell to CAD 193 million from CAD 206 million at the end of the second quarter, and net debt to adjusted EBITDA improved to 1.4 times from 1.6 times at the end of 2025.

Achonu said the company expects annual adjusted EBITDA-to-free-cash-flow conversion to exceed 50%. Dexterra purchased approximately 118,000 shares during the quarter and declared a CAD 0.10-per-share dividend payable January 15, 2027.
