Key Points

  • Strong third-quarter performance: Trane Technologies reported 20% organic bookings growth, 16% organic revenue growth and a 25% increase in adjusted EPS, driven by commercial HVAC, services and data-center demand. Backlog reached $12.5 billion, with more than $8 billion scheduled for 2027 and beyond.
  • Raised revenue outlook amid regional strength: The company increased its full-year organic revenue growth forecast to approximately 11% while maintaining adjusted EPS guidance of $15.20–$15.30. Americas results were especially strong, while Middle East disruptions and China weakness weighed on international margins.
  • Supply pressures temper profitability expectations: Trane lowered its full-year organic operating leverage outlook to the low-20% range due to weaker pricing, inflation and supply-chain constraints involving key components. Management expects these pressures to persist through the fourth quarter but improve in the first half of 2027.

Trane Technologies NYSE: TT reported third-quarter 2026 results marked by 20% organic booking growth, 16% organic revenue growth and a 25% increase in adjusted earnings per share, as demand for commercial HVAC systems, services and data-center-related equipment remained strong.

Chair and CEO David Regnery said the company’s commercial HVAC businesses delivered particularly strong results, with global applied bookings rising more than 40% and total backlog reaching $12.5 billion. More than $8 billion of that backlog is scheduled for 2027 and beyond, according to Chief Financial Officer Chris Kuehn.

The company raised its full-year organic revenue growth outlook to approximately 11% while reaffirming adjusted EPS guidance of $15.20 to $15.30. Trane expects fourth-quarter organic revenue growth in the mid-teens and adjusted EPS of about $3.40 to $3.50.

Americas Growth Led by Applied Solutions and Residential

Trane said the Americas segment produced standout third-quarter performance. Commercial HVAC bookings increased by the low double digits, while organic revenue rose by the low 20s. Applied Solutions revenue increased more than 60% as projects ramped, and Americas service revenue grew 10%.

The residential business exceeded the company’s expectations, with both bookings and organic revenue increasing about 20%. Transport bookings rose in the high 30s and revenue increased in the high single digits, as the company said it is beginning to see signs of recovery after a multiyear downturn in the Americas transport market.

Regnery said data centers remain a major driver of commercial HVAC demand, though orders can be uneven because of the size and timing of large projects. He said the company was tracking roughly 1,700 large projects, up from 1,400 in the prior quarter, with more than 90% of those projects tied to data centers.

“We are not concerned about orders slowing,” Regnery said, adding that the company’s pipeline continued to expand globally. He said core commercial HVAC markets also remained strong, with year-to-date growth across 11 of Trane’s 14 vertical markets.

International Results Mixed as Middle East and China Weigh on Margins

In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Trane reported solid performance in Europe but continued effects from the conflict in the Middle East. Excluding the Middle East, EMEA bookings rose more than 50% and revenue grew in the high single digits. Kuehn said more than 80% of the segment’s year-over-year operating-income decline, or roughly $18 million, was attributable to the Middle East disruption.

Excluding the Middle East, the company’s EMEA commercial HVAC operations generated operating leverage above 25%, management said.

Asia Pacific results were affected by difficult conditions in China, which represents about one-third of the segment. Outside China, bookings in the rest of Asia increased 70% and revenue rose in the high teens. Kuehn said Asia Pacific pricing declined by roughly 1 percentage point, attributable to China.

Supply Chain Issues and Inflation Temper Leverage Outlook

While Americas operating margins expanded 50 basis points in the quarter, Trane reduced its expectation for full-year organic operating leverage to the low 20% range from its prior outlook of more than 25%.

Kuehn attributed the revision to lower-than-expected price realization and near-term supply-chain and inflation pressures. The company now expects full-year price realization of roughly 1 percentage point, compared with its prior estimate of 1.5 points. It expects price realization to improve to approximately 1.5 points at the enterprise level and close to 2 points in the Americas during the fourth quarter.

Management said pricing was softer than expected primarily in shorter-cycle businesses, including residential, transport and unitary HVAC. Stronger-than-expected residential volumes led to higher channel incentives, while transport sales skewed toward larger fleet customers that receive more favorable pricing.

Regnery also described supply constraints involving fans, coils and heat exchangers, as suppliers work to expand capacity amid higher demand. In addition, an early-August regulatory change involving the U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act list disrupted the availability of capacitors used by some of Trane’s motor and drive suppliers.

The disruption affected several plants and required rework after components became available, he said. Regnery said the issue was fully resolved by the time of the call, though supply-chain pressures are expected to continue through the fourth quarter and improve during the first half of 2027.

Acquisitions, Cash Deployment and 2027 Positioning

Trane said it acquired or committed to three strategic acquisitions during the third quarter, including Cancoil, a supplier of coils and heat-transfer products that is expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027. Management said Cancoil will improve supply-chain resilience and add heat-transfer expertise. Donny Simmons, executive vice president and chief operating officer, said Trane represented about 40% of Cancoil’s volume before the deal.

The company generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow year to date and now expects full-year free cash flow to exceed 100% of net earnings. It expects to deploy more than $3.4 billion in 2026, above the high end of its previous range. That deployment includes approximately $1.4 billion of share repurchases year to date and a 12% dividend increase earlier in the year.

Looking ahead, management did not provide formal 2027 guidance but said it expects continued strength in global commercial HVAC, supported by elevated backlog and data-center demand. Trane also expects normalized residential channel inventories entering 2027, a recovering Thermo King Americas market and continued service growth. Service represents about one-third of enterprise revenue and has generated a low-teens compound annual growth rate since 2020, according to the company.

Trane also reiterated plans for its Stellar business, which primarily serves data centers through modular chiller plants. The company expects Stellar to generate roughly $500 million in 2026 revenue with neutral earnings impact as it invests in manufacturing capacity, including facilities in Florida and Texas. Over the next several years, management said it sees potential for Stellar to become a $1 billion revenue business with mid-teens EBITDA margins.
