Company Overview

Silver Standard Resources Inc. was a precious-metals mining company focused primarily on the exploration, development and production of silver and gold. The company also produced associated metals, including lead and zinc, from certain operations. Its assets included the Pirquitas silver mine and the Chinchillas silver-lead-zinc project in Argentina, which were combined into the Puna Operations.

Silver Standard expanded its portfolio through acquisitions, including the Marigold gold mine in Nevada and the Seabee gold operation in Saskatchewan. In 2017, following its growth beyond silver mining, the company changed its name to SSR Mining Inc. and adopted the NASDAQ ticker symbol SSRM. SSR Mining subsequently operated a portfolio of precious-metals assets in North and South America and Türkiye, including the Çöpler gold mine.

The company’s business has centered on operating mines, advancing development projects and conducting exploration near existing assets. Its geographic focus has included the United States, Canada, Argentina and Türkiye. Silver Standard Resources is therefore best understood as the former corporate identity of SSR Mining, a diversified precious-metals producer with a historical emphasis on silver and an expanded focus on gold.
