BG Group Limited, formerly BG Group plc, was a United Kingdom-based international oil and gas company engaged in the exploration, development and production of hydrocarbons. Its activities included upstream oil and natural gas operations, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the marketing and transportation of energy products.

The company operated across a range of international markets, with notable exploration and production interests in countries including Brazil, Australia, Egypt, Kazakhstan and Trinidad and Tobago. BG Group was also involved in LNG supply chains, connecting natural gas production with global markets through processing, shipping and sales activities.

BG Group was formed in 1997 following the demerger of British Gas plc. Helge Lund served as chief executive officer during the company’s final period as an independent business. Royal Dutch Shell, now Shell plc, completed its acquisition of BG Group in February 2016, after which BG Group ceased operating as a standalone publicly traded company.
