About Visa

Visa (NYSE:V) is a global payments technology company that operates one of the world’s largest electronic payments networks. Through its VisaNet platform, the company facilitates the authorization, clearing and settlement of payment transactions between consumers, merchants, financial institutions and governments.

Visa provides payment products and services for credit, debit, prepaid and commercial transactions. Its offerings also include digital payment capabilities, tokenization, fraud prevention, risk management and other value-added services designed to support secure electronic commerce and contactless payments. Visa generally does not issue cards, extend credit or set consumer account terms; those activities are typically handled by participating financial institutions.

The company traces its origins to Bank of America’s BankAmericard program, launched in 1958. The BankAmericard system was renamed Visa in 1976, and Visa became a publicly traded company in 2008. Visa’s payment network serves consumers, businesses, financial institutions and public-sector organizations across more than 200 countries and territories. Ryan McInerney has served as Visa’s president and chief executive officer since 2023.
