About Humacyte

Humacyte (NASDAQ:HUMA) is a biotechnology company developing bioengineered human tissues for use in regenerative medicine and vascular repair. The company’s platform is designed to create implantable, off-the-shelf tissues that can be stored and used when needed without requiring the collection of tissue from the patient.

Its primary product is SYMVESS, an acellular tissue-engineered vessel intended to replace or repair damaged blood vessels. In December 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved SYMVESS for use in the urgent treatment of extremity arterial injuries when emergency vascular reconstruction is required. Humacyte is also evaluating its vascular-tissue technology in potential applications including vascular trauma, hemodialysis access, peripheral arterial disease, coronary artery bypass surgery and pediatric heart repair.

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, Humacyte develops its products using human cells grown on temporary scaffolds; the cellular material is subsequently removed, leaving a tissue matrix designed for surgical implantation. The company’s technology and clinical programs are primarily focused on the United States, although it has pursued regulatory and commercial opportunities in other markets. Humacyte was founded by vascular surgeon and biomedical researcher Laura Niklason, who has served as the company’s chief executive officer.
