The company emphasizes research and development in areas such as hypersonics, directed energy, advanced sensors, autonomy and secure communications to address evolving defense and space requirements. Leadership has included a succession of industry executives; James D. Taiclet has served as chief executive officer since 2020 and also holds the company’s top leadership responsibilities. Lockheed Martin remains a major contractor in U.S. national security and space programs, maintaining a broad footprint of engineering, manufacturing and program offices worldwide.
