Its products are designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, precision strike, tactical communications and other defense and security missions.

The company’s portfolio includes the Raven, Puma and Quantix unmanned aircraft systems; the JUMP 20 vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft; and the Switchblade family of loitering munitions. AeroVironment also develops autonomy software, ground-control systems, high-altitude platforms and technologies intended to detect, track and counter uncrewed aircraft.

Founded in 1971 by aerospace engineer Paul B. MacCready, AeroVironment initially became known for human-powered and solar-powered aircraft before expanding into military and commercial unmanned systems. The company broadened its defense technology capabilities through the acquisition of BlueHalo, adding expertise in space, cyber, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and counter-uncrewed-aircraft systems.

AeroVironment serves the U.S. Department of Defense, other government agencies and defense customers in the United States and allied international markets. Wahid Nawabi serves as the company’s president and chief executive officer.
