The company is one of the leading rare earth producers outside China and supplies materials used in electric motors, electronics, wind turbines, industrial equipment and other advanced technologies.

Lynas operates the Mount Weld rare earths mine and concentration plant in Western Australia, which provides ore for further processing. It also operates a rare earths processing facility in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, and an advanced materials plant in Gebeng, Malaysia. Its products include separated rare earth oxides, including neodymium and praseodymium, as well as mixed rare earth carbonate and other materials containing heavy and light rare earth elements.

The company was founded in Australia in 1983 and was formerly known as Lynas Corporation before adopting the Lynas Rare Earths name. In addition to serving customers in Asia and other international markets, Lynas has pursued projects intended to expand its processing and manufacturing presence in the United States. The company is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, and is led by Chief Executive Officer Amanda Lacaze.
