Company Overview

MP Materials Corp. is a rare earth materials company that owns and operates the Mountain Pass rare earth mine and processing facility in California. The site is one of the largest rare earth production facilities in the Western Hemisphere and produces rare earth concentrate, with an emphasis on neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), materials used in high-performance permanent magnets.

The company is expanding its operations beyond mining and concentrate production into separated rare earth products and magnet manufacturing. Its products support applications including electric vehicles, wind turbines, robotics, defense systems, consumer electronics and other technologies that use rare earth magnets. MP Materials has developed downstream processing and magnet manufacturing capabilities in the United States, including facilities in Texas.

Mountain Pass has a long history as a major rare earth mining site. After the previous operator filed for bankruptcy, the asset was acquired in 2017 by an investor group that included JHL Capital Group and later became the foundation of MP Materials. The company became publicly traded in 2020 through a business combination with a special purpose acquisition company. MP Materials is led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Litinsky.
