Acadian Asset Management NYSE: AAMI reported record assets under management, higher management fees and increased profitability for the third quarter of 2026, supported by positive client flows and strong investment performance across its systematic strategies.

President and Chief Executive Officer Kelly Young said the firm generated $2.6 billion in net client inflows during the quarter, extending its streak to 11 consecutive quarters of positive net flows. Assets under management reached a record $239.6 billion as of Sept. 30, up 44% from a year earlier.

For the first nine months of 2026, Acadian recorded $28.3 billion in net inflows, representing annualized organic growth of 21%, according to Young. She said assets under management have more than doubled since the end of 2024.

Profitability and Fees Rise

U.S. GAAP net income attributable to controlling interests increased 135% from the prior-year quarter, while GAAP earnings per share rose 138%. The company said the results reflected higher management fees, partly offset by non-cash expenses related to changes in the value of Acadian LLC equity and profit interests.

Economic net income, or ENI, rose 78% to $48.3 million, while ENI diluted earnings per share increased 79% to a record $1.36. Adjusted EBITDA climbed 67% year over year.

Chief Financial Officer Scott Hynes said total ENI revenue rose 39% to $189 million. Recurring management fees increased 38% to a record $188 million, driven by higher average assets under management from market appreciation and net client inflows.

ENI operating expenses increased 18%, reflecting higher general and administrative costs, investments in technology and infrastructure, asset-based servicing costs and compensation. Variable compensation increased 21%, primarily due to higher profit before variable compensation.

Despite the higher expenses, Acadian’s ENI operating margin expanded by nearly nine percentage points to 42.6%, while its operating expense ratio fell six percentage points to 37.1%. Hynes said the company expects its full-year 2026 variable compensation ratio to be approximately 34% to 38%, depending on performance fees and deferred compensation.

Investment Results and Strategy Demand

Young said 96% of Acadian’s revenue-weighted strategies outperformed their benchmarks over the three-, five- and 10-year periods ended Sept. 30. The proportion of revenue represented by strategies outperforming over the trailing one-year period improved to 95%, compared with 73% a year earlier.

The company’s five major implementations—Global Equity, Emerging Markets Equity, Non-U.S. Equity, Small-Cap Equity and Enhanced Equity—each had 100% of assets outperforming benchmarks across the three-, five- and 10-year periods, according to management.

Acadian reported a revenue-weighted five-year annualized return in excess of benchmark of 4.8%, while the asset-weighted measure was 3.9%. Young said third-quarter alpha was particularly strong in emerging-markets, small-cap and Extension strategies.

Enhanced Equity remained a major growth driver and accounted for more than 30% of assets under management. Extension strategies, which include 130/30 and 160/60 approaches, had grown to more than $13 billion in assets from approximately $5 billion a year earlier, Young said.

While quarterly net flows moderated from earlier periods, management attributed that in part to client portfolio rebalancing after strong equity-market appreciation. Young said the institutional pipeline remained robust across strategies and geographies, with awarded business awaiting funding in Enhanced Equity, Extension and core equity strategies.

Wealth, Credit and Tax-Aware Initiatives

Management highlighted several newer growth initiatives. Acadian expects to receive its first external institutional funding in Systematic Credit later in 2026 from what Young described as a prominent U.S. asset owner. Its Tax-Aware strategy, launched in May, has also received initial client funding.

During the quarter, Acadian was selected as an inaugural investment manager for UBS Global Wealth Management’s exclusive manager access fund program in Asia. Young said funding has already begun through the UBS relationship, which is intended to bring Acadian’s Extension strategies to private wealth clients.

The firm is also pursuing wealth-channel distribution through existing capabilities and partnerships, including its relationship with St. James’s Place and its UCITS platform. Young said Acadian’s approach is to use institutional investment infrastructure rather than build a direct-to-retail distribution organization.

Hynes said Extension strategies helped support a stable blended fee rate during the quarter, as the fee rate on inflows exceeded that on outflows. He added that Extension assets may also support future performance-fee opportunities, although performance-fee eligible assets remained roughly 12% of total assets under management.

Capital Position and Shareholder Returns

As of Sept. 30, Acadian held $150 million of cash and $113 million of seed investments. It had a $200 million balance on its term loan facility and no borrowings on its revolving credit facility. Gross debt to adjusted EBITDA stood at 0.7 times, while net debt to adjusted EBITDA was 0.2 times.

The board declared an interim dividend of $0.10 per share, payable Dec. 23 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 11. The company did not repurchase shares during the third quarter.

Hynes said Acadian intends to prioritize organic growth and balance-sheet flexibility before returning excess capital through dividends and repurchases. He said buybacks remain part of the company’s framework, but management will remain selective in evaluating opportunities.
