Key Points

  • Revenue grew 10% year over year to $241 million, and ECARX reaffirmed its 2026 outlook of $1 billion to $1.1 billion, citing its backlog and planned launches.
  • Rising memory costs sharply squeezed profitability: gross margin fell to 7% from 22% a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA loss widened to $37.7 million. The company is pursuing pricing discussions, supplier agreements and cost controls, but offered no Q4 margin forecast.
  • ECARX launched production for 21 vehicle models and completed its Flyme software acquisition, which management sees as a path to integrated hardware and software offerings and potential recurring revenue. Cash fell to $53.7 million at quarter-end after acquisition spending and operating outflows.

ECARX NASDAQ: ECX reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $241 million, up 10% from a year earlier and 7% sequentially, as vehicle program launches and higher shipment volumes supported growth. The automotive technology company reaffirmed its full-year revenue outlook of $1 billion to $1.1 billion, though higher global memory costs significantly pressured profitability during the quarter.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ziyu Shen said the company shipped more products despite a sharply declining China vehicle market. Third-quarter shipments totaled about 721,000 units, up 31% from the second quarter and 8% year over year.

“The third quarter was defined by disciplined execution and continued progress across our strategic objectives,” Shen said. He added that ECARX remains confident in meeting its 2026 revenue target, supported by its order backlog and program launches planned for the fourth quarter.

Memory Costs Weigh on Margins

Chief Financial Officer Dylan Jeng said sales of goods revenue rose 23% year over year to $223 million and increased 14% from the prior quarter. Software license and services revenue totaled $18 million, down 53% year over year, which the company attributed to the seasonal and project-based timing of production launches.

Gross profit was $17 million, producing a gross margin of 7%, compared with a 22% gross margin in the prior-year quarter. Jeng said rising memory costs outpaced the company’s ability to pass those increases through to customers during the quarter.

“As a result, our ability to pass through further cost increases was more limited this quarter, as we absorbed a larger share of the cost to secure great volume and protect our partnerships,” Jeng said.

Adjusted EBITDA was a loss of $37.7 million, compared with a loss of $900,000 a year earlier. Jeng said about $30 million of the sequential change was attributable to lower gross margin caused by memory costs. Operating expenses were $53 million, down 3% from the prior-year period, while year-to-date operating expenses declined 17% to $158 million.

The company said it is seeking to mitigate memory-cost pressures through customer pricing discussions, supplier negotiations, long-term memory supply agreements, product-mix changes and continued cost controls. In response to an analyst question, Jeng did not provide a forecast for fourth-quarter margin trends, citing uncertainty surrounding memory-cost dynamics.

Vehicle Deployments and New Launches Expand

Chief Operating Officer Peter Cirino said ECARX began mass production for 21 new vehicle models across five brands during the quarter. Six of those models are designated for markets outside China, including Korea.

The company said its technology is now deployed in more than 12 million vehicles across 18 original equipment manufacturers, 28 brands and 159 markets. It added that more than 1.4 million new vehicles deployed ECARX technology during the first nine months of 2026.

Cirino said demand for the company’s higher-end Antora products increased 20% year over year. Shipments of its Pikes products were relatively flat from a year earlier, which he described as a project-based shift in partner demand rather than a reduction in sales.

ECARX’s Volkswagen Group partnership remains on track for an expected 2027 launch, according to management. The company is building engineering, supply-chain and support infrastructure in Latin America for the program.

ECARX also said it is in the final stages of signing an agreement with an unnamed European luxury automaker to establish a joint cockpit artificial intelligence innovation lab. The lab is expected to use Flyme OS to develop customized next-generation AI cockpits for the automaker’s vehicles in China.

Flyme Acquisition Expands Software Strategy

ECARX completed its acquisition of the Flyme software business on Sept. 30. Shen said Flyme Auto has been deployed in more than 3.5 million vehicles and gives ECARX ownership of the application layer that drivers use in the vehicle.

Cirino said the combination of ECARX’s Cloudpeak middleware platform and Flyme Auto’s application and interaction layer will enable a more integrated hardware and software offering. Management said Flyme creates potential recurring revenue opportunities through software licensing, app ecosystems and cockpit deployments, which are not tied directly to hardware volumes.

The company also announced that Tencent Cloud’s WorkBuddy agentic AI will be integrated across the Flyme ecosystem, including smartphones, AI devices and Flyme Auto. ECARX said users will be able to describe tasks in natural language across those devices.

Separately, ECARX signed a memorandum of understanding with Arm covering collaboration on next-generation physical AI platforms and silicon innovation for automotive applications and other sectors. Management said the company sees potential applications for its edge-computing, silicon and software stack in robotics and other intelligent devices over time.

Cash Position and Capital Structure

Total cash was $53.7 million as of Sept. 30, down from $165.5 million at June 30. During the quarter, ECARX paid $191.5 million of Flyme purchase consideration before closing, funded through cash reserves and $67.8 million of bank financing. The company also cited operating cash outflows and working-capital requirements associated with new program launches, supported by an additional $30.5 million in bank financing.

After the quarter ended, ECARX terminated the remaining $100 million available under a convertible-note facility and paid a $10 million termination fee. It also repaid the remaining convertible-notes balance. Jeng said the actions limited potential future dilution and provided greater financial flexibility.

During the question-and-answer session, Shen said Geely-related revenue currently represents about 75% of ECARX’s revenue, while business beyond the Geely ecosystem accounts for about 25%. The company reiterated its longer-term goal of generating 50% of revenue outside China by 2030.
