Key Points

  • Amerigo Resources delivered a stronger Q3: Revenue rose 61% year over year to $84.6 million, while net income increased to $22.7 million, supported by higher copper prices and 16% production growth to 17 million pounds.
  • Costs and operations remained favorable: Quarterly cash costs fell to $1.55 per pound, helped by increased production and higher molybdenum credits. MVC maintained 98.1% plant availability despite heavy rainfall and remains on track to meet annual copper and molybdenum production guidance.
  • Strong cash generation funded shareholder returns: Free cash flow reached $28.1 million, enabling $27.8 million in dividends and share repurchases during the quarter. Amerigo remained debt-free with $50.1 million in cash and declared another 4-cent Canadian quarterly dividend.
  • Five stocks to consider instead of Amerigo Resources.

Amerigo Resources TSE: ARG reported higher third-quarter earnings and cash flow as stronger copper prices, increased production and lower cash costs supported its results at the Minera Valle Central (MVC) operation in Chile.

President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora Davidson said the company produced 17 million pounds of copper during the quarter, while maintaining 98.1% plant availability despite heavy rainfall that limited some historic-tailings processing days. Year-to-date copper output reached 48.2 million pounds, or 76% of Amerigo’s annual guidance.

“Production is where it needs to be. Costs are performing better than guidance, and MVC continues to operate reliably,” Davidson said.

Quarterly Profitability Rises on Copper Prices and Production

Chief Financial Officer Carmen Amezquita said third-quarter revenue increased 61% from a year earlier to $84.6 million. The increase reflected higher copper production, stronger copper prices and $6.9 million in positive adjustments to the fair value of settlement receivables.

MVC’s average recognized copper price was $6.55 per pound, compared with $4.54 per pound in the third quarter of 2025. Copper production rose 16% from 14.6 million pounds in the prior-year quarter, which had been affected by lower-than-normal production following a DET accident.

Net income totaled $22.7 million, or $0.14 per basic and diluted share, compared with $6.7 million, or $0.04 per share, a year earlier. EBITDA was $48 million, according to Davidson.

Amerigo said its tolling model means that the gross value of copper produced does not equal the revenue it ultimately recognizes, as higher copper prices also increase royalties paid to DET. Total cost rose to $4.34 per pound from $3.71 per pound a year earlier, primarily due to higher DET notional royalties linked to copper prices. All-in sustaining cost was $4.53 per pound, compared with $3.85 per pound in the 2025 quarter.

Lower Cash Costs Supported by Molybdenum Credits

Quarterly cash cost was $1.55 per pound, down from $1.80 per pound in the third quarter of 2025. Amezquita said year-to-date normalized cash cost was $1.65 per pound, 17% below the company’s annual guidance of $1.98 per pound.

The lower cost performance reflected higher copper production and stronger molybdenum by-product credits. MVC’s average molybdenum price rose to $32.38 per pound from $24.11 per pound in the comparable quarter last year.

Fresh tailings represented 71% of quarterly copper production, compared with 47% in the prior-year period. During the question-and-answer session, Davidson said fresh-tailings throughput from El Teniente was about 105,000 tonnes per day in both the second and third quarters, versus approximately 93,000 tonnes per day in the third quarter of 2025.

Fresh-tailings grade was 0.20% during the quarter, compared with 0.18% a year earlier, while copper recovery on fresh tailings improved to 28.5% from 22.2%. Davidson attributed the recovery improvement to ongoing optimization and plant-level efficiency initiatives.

Heavy rains affected operating days at the Cauquenes historic-tailings operation, where Amerigo pauses activity during severe conditions for safety reasons. Davidson said the company has invested in infrastructure protection and pumping capacity to reduce downtime after rain events. Despite the weather, she said the company remained ahead of its internal production targets and had no production-related update to report.

Cash Generation Funds Dividends and Buybacks

Operating cash flow before changes in non-cash working capital reached $30.5 million, compared with $12.4 million a year earlier. Free cash flow was $28.1 million, up from $11.1 million in the comparable quarter.

Amerigo returned $27.8 million to shareholders during the quarter, including $20.4 million in performance dividends, $4.5 million in quarterly dividends and $2.9 million in share repurchases. Through the first nine months of 2026, shareholder payments totaled $69.5 million.

Davidson said that including a 21 Canadian-cent performance dividend paid on Oct. 14, Amerigo had returned $93.9 million to shareholders during 2026. The board also declared another quarterly dividend of 4 Canadian cents, payable in December.

Since implementing its capital return strategy in October 2021, Amerigo has returned $168 million to shareholders and reduced shares outstanding by 15.4%, Amezquita said. The company ended the quarter with $50.1 million in cash and cash equivalents, up from $40.3 million at the end of 2025, and maintained a debt-free balance sheet.

Outlook and Copper-Price Sensitivity

MVC remains on track to meet annual guidance of 63.8 million pounds of copper and 1.5 million pounds of molybdenum. As of Sept. 30, the operation had produced 48.2 million pounds of copper and 1.15 million pounds of molybdenum.

Year-to-date capital expenditures were $12.8 million, as the company continued selective spending on sustaining and optimization initiatives.

Amezquita said a 10% movement in the provisional copper price of $6.55 per pound used at Sept. 30 would have a positive or negative effect of about $11.2 million on third-quarter revenue relative to quarterly production.

Davidson said Amerigo continued discussions with DET regarding the royalty structure at copper prices above $4.80 and $5.50 per pound, but said the company would not comment on the substance of the talks while they remain underway.
