Its portfolio includes natural gas, nuclear, coal, solar, and battery energy storage assets.

Vistra also operates a retail electricity business that offers power plans, renewable energy options, and energy-management services. Its retail brands include TXU Energy, Homefield Energy, Dynegy, and Ambit Energy, serving customers in competitive electricity markets across the United States. Through its generation and retail operations, Vistra participates in wholesale power markets as well as the direct sale of electricity to consumers and businesses.

The company was formed in 2016 following the restructuring of Energy Future Holdings and began trading publicly in 2017. Vistra expanded its generation and retail operations through acquisitions, including the purchase of Dynegy and the acquisition of Energy Harbor, which added nuclear generation and retail electricity businesses. Jim Burke serves as Vistra’s president and chief executive officer.
