Aegon serves customers primarily in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal, with additional international investment-management and insurance activities. Its offerings include protection products, workplace and individual retirement plans, annuities, long-term savings products and investment services. Aegon’s former U.S. insurance and retirement business was separated from the group and combined with other operations under Transamerica and Corebridge Financial.

The company was created in 1983 through the merger of Dutch insurers AGO and Ennia, whose histories extend back to the nineteenth century. Aegon is listed on Euronext Amsterdam, and its American Depositary Shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AEG. Lard Friese has served as Aegon’s chief executive since 2020.
